MTN Group has
confirmed a cybersecurity incident that may have compromised the data of
approximately 5,700 MTN Ghana customers. While the company assures users that
its platforms remain fully operational, investigations are ongoing to determine
the full extent of the breach.
MTN has engaged
leading cybersecurity experts to conduct a forensic analysis and mitigate
potential risks. The telecommunications giant emphasized that the
confidentiality, integrity, and availability of its systems remain intact, with
no disruption to services. Affected customers will be contacted directly as the
investigation progresses.
In response to
the incident, MTN has urged all users to exercise heightened vigilance.
Customers are advised to keep their MTN, MoMo, and banking apps updated, use
strong and unique passwords, and avoid sharing sensitive information such as
PINs or OTPs. Additionally, enabling multifactor authentication where available
can provide an extra layer of security.
The company has
reassured stakeholders that protecting customer privacy is a top priority and
remains committed to maintaining the trust placed in its services. MTN has also
encouraged customers to report any suspicious activity by contacting its
