Kenya’s Climate
Change Envoy, Ambassador Ali D. Mohamed, has accepted an invitation to serve on
the Advisory Board of the California-Africa Climate and Economic Partnership
(CACEP). This initiative, led by the University of California, Davis Institute
of Transportation Studies (ITS) in collaboration with the California State
Transportation Agency, aims to tackle shared climate challenges through
technology exchange, policy collaboration, and joint projects.
Ambassador
Mohamed expressed his commitment to fostering a strong partnership between
California and Kenya, emphasizing the potential to turn climate challenges into
opportunities for sustainable growth. “As part of the CACEP Advisory Board,
I commit to advancing a partnership where California and Kenya unite expertise,
technology, and innovation to transform our shared climate challenges into
opportunities for green growth and resilient communities,” he said.
The partnership
was formed after a delegation of California officials, including Secretary of
the California State Transportation Agency, Toks Omishakin, and UC Davis ITS
Global South Center Director Aditya Ramji, visited Kenya in December 2024. The
collaboration recognizes the similar climate challenges both regions face,
including water management and clean energy development.
Ambassador
Mohamed’s role on the advisory board is expected to bolster Kenya’s leadership
in Africa’s climate action efforts while showcasing how regional partnerships
can contribute to achieving global climate goals. By leveraging shared
expertise and innovation, CACEP seeks to drive meaningful progress in climate
resilience and green economic development.
