Somalia’s
National Communications Authority (NCA) has officially licensed Starlink to
operate in the country. The approval, announced at a ceremony in Mogadishu,
marks a pivotal step in bridging Somalia’s digital divide, particularly in
underserved rural regions.

NCA Director
General Mustafa Yasin Sheik emphasized the transformative potential of the
partnership, stating, “Starlink’s services will revolutionize connectivity
for individuals and institutions in areas where internet access has been
historically unreliable or unavailable.” The satellite-based solution is
expected to deliver high-speed internet nationwide, overcoming infrastructure
challenges that have hindered traditional broadband deployment.

Minister of
Communications and Technology H.E. Mohamed Mo’allim reaffirmed the government’s
commitment to inclusive digital growth, noting that Starlink’s entry aligns
with Somalia’s vision of affordable, universal internet access. The initiative
is set to enhance education, healthcare, and economic opportunities,
particularly in remote communities.
