The Zambian National STEM Foundation has hosted a fundraising gala dinner in Lusaka, bringing together government officials, private sector partners, and development stakeholders to support the establishment of a STEM Innovation Hub aimed at advancing science and technology education in the country.

The event, held at the Urban Hotel, marked a key milestone in the Foundation’s efforts to develop a dedicated space to promote innovation, research, and technological development among young people in Zambia. The initiative is designed to strengthen the country’s capacity in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics as part of broader national development objectives.

President Hakainde Hichilema made a contribution of K200,000 towards the completion of the Innovation Hub project, signaling government support for STEM education as a driver of economic growth and competitiveness. Additional contributions were made by various stakeholders, including Board Chair Christopher Mundia, who donated K50,000, and private sector and faith-based partners.

Among the notable contributions, ETG pledged K100,000, while Gahog Ministries, led by Pastor Chanda, donated K200,000 along with broadcast and streaming equipment. Pastor Valentine and Faith also provided equipment valued at K250,000, and Huawei supported the initiative through equipment donations.

The event was attended by Zambia’s Minister of ICT, Felix Mutati as Guest of Honour, alongside board members, sponsors, and partners, including ZESCO Limited and Zambia National Commercial Bank. Participants emphasized the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration in building a strong foundation for innovation and skills development.

Organizers indicated that the fundraising effort is part of a broader strategy to invest in youth development and position Zambia to better harness opportunities in emerging technologies. The planned Innovation Hub is expected to serve as a platform for nurturing future innovators and equipping them with the skills required to address local and global challenges.
