The Communications Authority of Kenya has stepped up its international engagement efforts during the ongoing ITU Council Conference in Geneva, as part of preparations for the upcoming ITU Plenipotentiary Conference 2026 in Doha.

The Kenyan delegation, led by officials from the authority alongside Legal Services Director Lydia Sitienei, has been actively participating in high-level discussions and diplomatic outreach on the global stage. Engagements included a bilateral meeting with the Qatari delegation and a courtesy call on Kenya’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva, Dr. Fancy Too.

These interactions form part of Kenya’s broader campaign strategy as it seeks re-election to the International Telecommunication Union Council. The ITU Council, made up of 48 elected member states, is responsible for overseeing the Union’s operations, managing its finances, and shaping strategic responses to developments in the global telecommunications landscape.

Kenyan officials say the engagements are aimed at strengthening alliances, reinforcing diplomatic ties, and positioning the country for continued influence within the global telecommunications governance framework.
