The Uganda Institute of Information and Communications Technology (UICT) has conducted a digital skilling awareness session at St. Augustine’s College in Wakiso, positioning students to better engage with Uganda’s rapidly evolving technology-driven economy.

The outreach programme introduced students to career pathways in software engineering, data analysis, and web development, while also providing practical exposure to emerging technologies such as augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR). The interactive session demonstrated how these tools are transforming teaching and learning by making education more engaging, inclusive, and experiential.

Students participated in hands-on demonstrations designed to deepen their understanding of how digital technologies are applied in real-world environments. The initiative also highlighted opportunities available through free global learning platforms, including Cisco Networking Academy and HP LIFE, alongside sensitisation on online safety and responsible digital engagement.

UICT noted that the programme is part of its broader mandate to promote accessible, affordable, and industry-relevant digital education, aimed at preparing young people for participation in the digital economy.

School leadership welcomed the intervention, with Headteacher Owek. Joseph Ddamulira Kawuma commending UICT for bringing practical digital opportunities directly to learners. He emphasized that such engagements are critical in ensuring that students are not left behind in the ongoing digital transformation.

The initiative underscores growing efforts to bridge digital skills gaps among young learners and strengthen national readiness for emerging technology-driven opportunities.
