The Personal Data Protection Office of Uganda has launched a regional outreach initiative in Masaka City aimed at creating awareness and strengthening compliance with the country’s data protection framework.

The engagement focuses on supporting the implementation of the Data Protection and Privacy Act (Cap. 97) through direct interaction with government institutions and key stakeholders responsible for handling personal data. Officials are working to improve understanding of legal obligations related to the collection, processing, and safeguarding of personal information.

As part of the exercise, the PDPO is conducting compliance inspections across various entities to assess current data management practices and identify areas requiring improvement. The inspections are expected to provide practical insights into how organizations can align their operations with regulatory standards.

The outreach programme also includes public awareness efforts, with planned radio discussions designed to reach a broader audience and reinforce the importance of data protection as a shared responsibility among institutions and individuals.

The initiative underscores Uganda’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its data governance ecosystem, enhance institutional accountability, and promote responsible data handling practices in an increasingly digital environment.
