The
Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) has expressed
support for the nomination of Cynthia Leungo Lesufi as Secretary-General of the
African Telecommunications Union (ATU) for the 2027–2030 term.
According
to ICASA, the nomination reflects Africa’s growing commitment to strengthening
cooperation across the information and communications technology sector and
accelerating the continent’s digital development agenda.
The
regulator noted that Lesufi’s leadership would focus on expanding broadband
access, strengthening digital infrastructure, advancing digital skills, and
enhancing Africa’s participation in the global digital economy.
ICASA
also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote an
inclusive digital society and expressed its readiness to collaborate with
partners across the continent to advance innovation, connectivity, and digital
empowerment.
