MTN Group President and CEO
Ralph Mupita has highlighted India’s digital transformation and the role of
technology in building equitable and sustainable societies following GSMA Board
and Leadership meetings in New Delhi.
Mupita said he and other
industry leaders had the “privilege and pleasure” of meeting Prime Minister
Narendra Modi and exchanging views on the role and impact of the digital
economy and technology in transforming nations.
“He shared too the view that
we hold at MTN that technology has to be democratised for equitable and
sustainable societies. No one must be left behind,” Mupita said.
According to Mupita, India
has undergone significant transformation over the last decade through the
development of digital public infrastructure (DPI), sound and affordable
spectrum frameworks, the rapid rollout of 4G and 5G networks and the sunsetting
of 3G.
He also pointed to the
continued development of the India Stack as a key element of the country's
digital progress.
Mupita also said he
appreciated the views and perspectives shared by India’s Minister of
Communications and Information Technology, Jyotiraditya M Scindia, on where
India is going and what the country can share with the world.
The MTN chief praised GSMA
Director General Vivek Badrinath and the GSMA team for what he described as “a
fantastic few days.”
He also thanked Gopal
Vittal, Sunil Mittal and the team at Bharti Airtel for being “great hosts in
New Delhi.”
The engagements come as
telecommunications and technology leaders continue to examine how digital
infrastructure, connectivity and public digital platforms can accelerate
economic transformation and broaden access to the benefits of the digital
economy.
