Rwanda Prime Minister
Nsengiyumva has underscored the need to advance climate adaptation alongside
urgent reductions in greenhouse gas emissions during high-level engagements on
the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA81) in New York.
The Prime Minister made the
call while joining Heads of State and Government at the Fourth Climate
Vulnerable Forum (CVF) Leaders Meeting, chaired by Barbados Prime Minister Mia
Amor Mottley.
The meeting brought together
leaders to address the challenges facing countries that are particularly
vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, with discussions highlighting the
need for stronger action on both climate adaptation and emissions reductions.
Prime Minister Nsengiyumva
also delivered closing remarks at an event marking the 10th anniversary of the
Kigali Amendment.
The Kigali Amendment is an
international agreement aimed at reducing hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), potent
greenhouse gases used in refrigeration and air-conditioning.
In addition to his climate
engagements, the Prime Minister participated in a high-level discussion on
pandemic preparedness and global health resilience.
The discussion was organised
by the Pandemic Fund, Rwanda and Armenia and focused on strengthening
preparedness and resilience against future health emergencies.
