More than 35 digital
solutions developed in Ethiopia’s Amhara Region have been showcased at a
Digital Solutions Fair as the government advances efforts to strengthen digital
infrastructure, cybersecurity and e-government services under the Digital
Ethiopia 2030 strategy.
The fair, organised by the
Amhara Regional Innovation and Technology Bureau under the theme “E-Government
for Digital Ethiopia 2030,” is currently underway and includes discussions on
emerging opportunities and digital infrastructure.
Speaking during a panel
discussion, Senior Advisor to the Minister at the Ministry of Innovation and
Technology, Dr Abiot Bayu, said several reforms had been undertaken under the
Digital Ethiopia 2025 framework and stressed the need to build on those efforts
to achieve the objectives of the Digital Ethiopia 2030 Strategy.
Bayu said stronger
infrastructure development, public awareness and cybersecurity protection would
be essential to achieving better results under the new digital development
agenda.
Deputy Director General of
the Information Network Security Administration, Daniel Guta, said his
institution is supporting the implementation of Digital Ethiopia through
cybersecurity measures and awareness-raising programmes.
Dr Demeke Boru, Head of the
Amhara Regional Planning and Development Bureau, said technology is being
positioned as a key driver of development under the region’s 25-year growth and
transformation roadmap, known as “Digital Amhara.”
Deputy Head of the Amhara
Regional Innovation and Technology Bureau, Chale Yegwu, said more than 35
digital solutions developed in the region are ready for use across sectors
including tourism, education, project management, health, agriculture, industry
and investment, as well as other government services.
The showcased solutions are
intended to improve the efficiency and accessibility of public services while
supporting the wider digitalisation of government operations in the region.
The fair provides a platform
for government institutions, technology developers and other stakeholders to
demonstrate locally developed digital solutions and discuss the infrastructure
and policy requirements needed to scale them.
