The African Agribusiness
Incubators Network (AAIN) has called for greater investment in skills,
enterprise development, innovation and sustainable markets to strengthen
Uganda’s food systems and advance efforts to achieve Zero Hunger.
AAIN said increased food
production alone will not be sufficient to address food insecurity and stressed
the need for food systems that connect skills to enterprise, innovation to
investment and farmers to sustainable markets.
The organisation’s focus
will be featured at the Food Systems Investment Summit (FSIS) 2026, scheduled
for October 1 and 2 at the Uganda Industrial Research Institute (UIRI) in
Namanve.
The summit is being
organised by AAIN and the Office of the Prime Minister – SDG Secretariat and is
expected to bring together innovators, investors, government representatives,
private-sector stakeholders and development partners to discuss investment opportunities
across Uganda’s food systems.
AAIN works to strengthen
agribusiness incubation and support young people and women to transform
agricultural skills, ideas and innovations into viable enterprises.
The organisation said the
growth of agribusinesses can contribute not only to income generation but also
to stronger food systems, more resilient communities and improved food
security.
The summit will therefore
focus on ways to accelerate investment and innovation across the agricultural
and food sectors while creating stronger links between entrepreneurs,
investors, policymakers and other stakeholders.
AAIN said achieving Zero
Hunger will require coordinated action and sustained investment, with
innovation and inclusive participation serving as important components of
efforts to build resilient food systems in Uganda.
