The Technopolis Development Authority and Unified Power LLC have partnered to develop an initial 2-megawatt (MW) hybrid renewable power plant at Konza Technopolis, Kenya’s flagship smart city and a Vision 2030 flagship project.

The project represents the first phase of a long-term energy development roadmap that could eventually scale the facility to 200 MW to support Konza Technopolis as it expands its smart infrastructure, digital services, data centre capabilities and innovation ecosystem.

The initial 2 MW installation is planned as a demonstration facility to showcase the potential of next-generation clean-energy solutions for smart cities and digital infrastructure with high energy demand.

The renewable power project is expected to support Konza Technopolis’ growing energy requirements as development of its technology-driven infrastructure continues.

The partnership also reinforces Konza Technopolis’ position as a platform for innovation, sustainable infrastructure, technology and investment, while contributing to Kenya’s broader ambitions to build a resilient, digitally enabled and environmentally sustainable economy.

The proposed expansion to 200 MW would provide a longer-term pathway for meeting the energy needs of the smart city as more businesses, digital infrastructure and technology-driven services are established within the development.
