The Technology Innovation
Agency (TIA) and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) have
held a collaboration meeting aimed at strengthening strategic alignment and
accelerating the translation of research and innovation into commercial and
societal impact.
The engagement, held at the
CSIR’s Baobab Conference Room in Pretoria, brought together the leadership and
teams of the two entities under South Africa’s Department of Science,
Technology and Innovation (DSTI).
The meeting was led by TIA
CEO Dr Zwanani Titus Mathe and CSIR CEO Dr Thulani Dlamini, who reviewed shared
priorities and explored opportunities to strengthen cooperation between the two
organisations.
Discussions included
bilateral updates from both institutions, an overview of CSIR’s C3 initiative
and a review of progress made under their existing partnership.
The organisations also
examined ways to connect CSIR’s technology development pipelines with TIA’s
funding, commercialisation and investor support capabilities. The discussions
further considered opportunities around shared infrastructure, market access
and joint mechanisms for delivering innovation projects.
The engagement resulted in
the identification of a focused set of joint opportunities and agreed next
steps aimed at moving promising technologies from research and development into
the market and broader society.
The collaboration forms part
of efforts to strengthen South Africa’s innovation ecosystem by improving links
between research institutions, funding mechanisms, investors and markets, with
the ultimate goal of turning scientific and technological advances into
economic and social value.
