The Director-General of the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet), Dr. Eric Asuman, has urged participants of a three-day training programme on performance and conflict management to translate the knowledge gained into practical improvements across the Agency.

The training brought together Unit Heads, Regional and District Officers as part of efforts to strengthen leadership capacity, accountability and organisational performance.

Participants were trained in performance planning and appraisal, target monitoring, effective communication, conflict resolution and approaches to building productive workplace relationships.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, GMet Deputy Director-General, Operations, Dr. Ignatius Kweku Williams, commended Dr. Asuman for his support towards initiatives aimed at strengthening the Agency.

Dr. Williams urged participants to share the knowledge acquired with colleagues at the regional and district levels and ensure that the lessons from the training influence how they manage, engage and appraise staff.

He stressed the importance of respecting the responsibilities and roles associated with different positions within the Agency, noting that the effectiveness of the training would ultimately be measured by its impact on workplace practices.

Dr. Asuman challenged participants to move beyond routine approaches to their responsibilities and apply the skills gained to improve performance across their respective areas.

“Let’s put into practice what we have learnt here. It is the only way we can see our organisation progressing,” he said.

The Director-General also encouraged participants to become ambassadors for GMet by helping the public better understand the Agency’s mandate and the importance of its meteorological services.

He urged staff to value their roles, take pride in their work and use the knowledge gained from the programme to positively influence colleagues and contribute to the Agency’s institutional development.

The training forms part of GMet’s broader efforts to strengthen human resource and institutional capacity while promoting accountability, effective leadership, continuous improvement and positive workplace relationships.
