The
Energy Commission of Ghana has hosted a delegation from Sustainable Energy
Africa (SEA) and the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) to explore Ghana’s
potential participation in a regional programme aimed at advancing distributed
generation and net-metering across Sub-Saharan Africa.
The
engagement focused on strengthening collaboration around distributed renewable
energy systems, with Ghana identified as a strategic partner in the expansion
of the SEA Programme. Discussions centred on opportunities to scale up
distributed generation solutions as part of broader efforts to enhance energy
access, efficiency, and sustainability in the region.
The
SEA delegation commended Ghana’s progress in the renewable energy sector,
particularly in the implementation of net-metering systems and the deployment
of distributed energy solutions. While acknowledging these achievements, the
delegation noted that further regional cooperation, technical exchange, and
capacity building would be critical to consolidating and expanding Ghana’s
gains.
Speaking
during the meeting, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Energy Commission,
Adwoa Serwaa Bondzie, described the engagement as timely and strategic. She
emphasized that Ghana’s participation in the programme would strengthen
regulatory frameworks and support the country’s ambition to become a regional
leader in sustainable and inclusive energy development.
The
Energy Commission reaffirmed its commitment to working with international
partners to accelerate the transition towards clean energy systems and improve
the integration of distributed renewable energy technologies into the national
grid.
The
visit forms part of ongoing efforts to deepen cooperation between Ghana and
development partners in advancing sustainable energy solutions across the
continent.
