Kenya
has intensified efforts to strengthen its national cybersecurity framework
following high-level discussions focused on enhancing cyber resilience, digital
trust, and international cooperation.
The
Principal Secretary for the State Department for ICT and Digital Economy, Eng.
John Kipchumba Tanui, held a strategic engagement with senior representatives
from Expertise France, the Kenya Advanced Institute of Science and Technology
(Kenya-AIST), and Kenya’s cybersecurity leadership team.
The
meeting brought together Tahar Benattia, Head of Division, Global Threats
Division at Expertise France; Elizabeth Rivier, Project Manager for the Kenya
Cyber Resilience (KCR) Project; Prof. Emmanuel Mutisya of Kenya-AIST; and Mr.
Emmanuel Kata, Secretary for Cybersecurity and Audit Control, alongside other
senior officials from the State Department.
Discussions
focused on advancing Kenya’s cybersecurity agenda through strengthened
institutional frameworks, policy and regulatory reforms, and improved
coordination across government and critical sectors.
Participants
also reviewed ongoing efforts to enhance national cyber resilience, including
initiatives aimed at improving information sharing, preparedness, and response
capabilities.
A
key area of focus was the development of a highly skilled cybersecurity
workforce through training, certification, research, and knowledge exchange
programmes designed to support emerging digital demands.
The
talks further reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to deepening cooperation with
France in cybersecurity, digital transformation, innovation, and academic
partnerships, as part of broader efforts to secure the country’s digital
ecosystem.
Officials
emphasized that strengthening cybersecurity remains central to Kenya’s digital
transformation strategy, aimed at fostering innovation, economic growth, and
national competitiveness.
