Kenya has intensified efforts to strengthen its national cybersecurity framework following high-level discussions focused on enhancing cyber resilience, digital trust, and international cooperation.

The Principal Secretary for the State Department for ICT and Digital Economy, Eng. John Kipchumba Tanui, held a strategic engagement with senior representatives from Expertise France, the Kenya Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (Kenya-AIST), and Kenya’s cybersecurity leadership team.

The meeting brought together Tahar Benattia, Head of Division, Global Threats Division at Expertise France; Elizabeth Rivier, Project Manager for the Kenya Cyber Resilience (KCR) Project; Prof. Emmanuel Mutisya of Kenya-AIST; and Mr. Emmanuel Kata, Secretary for Cybersecurity and Audit Control, alongside other senior officials from the State Department.

Discussions focused on advancing Kenya’s cybersecurity agenda through strengthened institutional frameworks, policy and regulatory reforms, and improved coordination across government and critical sectors.

Participants also reviewed ongoing efforts to enhance national cyber resilience, including initiatives aimed at improving information sharing, preparedness, and response capabilities.

A key area of focus was the development of a highly skilled cybersecurity workforce through training, certification, research, and knowledge exchange programmes designed to support emerging digital demands.

The talks further reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to deepening cooperation with France in cybersecurity, digital transformation, innovation, and academic partnerships, as part of broader efforts to secure the country’s digital ecosystem.

Officials emphasized that strengthening cybersecurity remains central to Kenya’s digital transformation strategy, aimed at fostering innovation, economic growth, and national competitiveness.
