The ICT
Authority, in collaboration with the Ministry of Information, Communications
and the Digital Economy, has hosted a high-level delegation from the World Bank
to review the significant strides made under the Kenya Digital Economy
Acceleration Project (KDEAP).
The delegation,
led by Dr. Michel Rogy, the World Bank’s Regional Practice Director for
Digital, received a comprehensive status update on the transformative
initiative. The discussions centered on the project's pivotal role in advancing
Kenya’s digital agenda and solidified the World Bank’s continued and robust
support for its implementation.
Cabinet
Secretary for the Ministry of Information, Communications and The Digital
Economy, William Kabogo, noted the government's dedication to the project's
success. "KDEAP is a cornerstone of our national development strategy.
This partnership with the World Bank is instrumental in bridging the digital
divide and creating opportunities for all Kenyans," he stated.
The meeting
highlighted the project's commendable progress across several key areas,
including the nationwide expansion of high-speed internet connectivity, the
enhancement of digital education and government services, and the critical
development of a skilled digital workforce to drive economic growth and
regional integration.
Principal
Secretary for ICT and the Digital Economy, John Kipchumba Tanui, also disclosed
that the government is leveraging existing infrastructure to fast-track
broadband rollout. "Our focus is on ensuring inclusive digital access.
While the government is committed to connecting all public institutions, we are
also fostering an environment where the private sector can thrive and extend
these benefits to communities and end-users," he said.

Principal
Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, Mr. Steve Isaboke, EBS, and
Ag. CEO of the ICT Authority, Ms. Zilpher Owiti, were also present, alongside
senior officials from the World Bank.
