The Ministry of
Communication, Telecommunications and Digital Affairs has launched a
comprehensive training program for members of parliament focused on digital
transformation, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity. The five-day
workshop represents a strategic effort to equip legislators with the technical
knowledge necessary to shape Senegal's digital future.

Organized in
partnership with the National Assembly and the United Nations Office on Drugs
and Crime, the initiative addresses critical digital governance challenges
including personal data protection, cybercrime prevention, and artificial
intelligence regulation. The program aims to empower parliamentarians to
develop effective public policies and legislation that support Senegal's
journey toward digital sovereignty.
The training
comes at a crucial time as Senegal advances its New Technological Deal, a
comprehensive strategy for technological development and digital inclusion.
With rising concerns about cyberattacks, online fraud, and privacy violations,
the workshop emphasizes that cybersecurity and data protection have become
national imperatives rather than optional considerations.
By educating
legislators on complex technological issues, the government aims to ensure that
legal and regulatory frameworks keep pace with rapid digital innovation while
protecting fundamental rights and national security interests.

The capacity-building
effort reflects a growing recognition worldwide that effective digital
governance requires informed policymakers who understand both the opportunities
and challenges presented by emerging technologies. The partnership with UNODC
brings international expertise on cybercrime prevention and digital governance
best practices, providing Senegalese lawmakers with global perspectives while
addressing local and regional digital challenges.
