The Ministry of
ICT and National Guidance has welcomed MTN Uganda's inaugural Sustainability
Report, recognizing it as a significant step toward corporate accountability
and sustainable development. The Minister of State for National Guidance, Godfrey
Kabbyanga joined the telecommunications company for the official launch,
highlighting the government's commitment to partnerships that drive innovation
and inclusive growth.
The
comprehensive report details MTN's social impact, valuable lessons learned, and
future commitments toward sustainable business practices. It demonstrates the
company's dedication to transparency and accountability while showcasing
initiatives that align with national development goals. The documentation of
both achievements and challenges provides a balanced view of the company's
sustainability journey.
Among the
highlighted programs is the ACE Initiative, which focuses on expanding digital
and financial inclusion while specifically empowering youth and women across
Uganda. This program complements the government's broader efforts to build an
inclusive digital economy that benefits all citizens regardless of gender, age,
or location.

Hon. Kabbyanga
commended MTN Uganda for achieving this milestone and reaffirmed the
government's dedication to fostering collaborative partnerships with private
sector entities that share the vision of sustainable development. The minister
emphasized that such reports not only demonstrate corporate responsibility but
also provide valuable insights that can inform national policy and strategy
development.
The
sustainability report launch represents a growing trend among major
corporations in Uganda to formally document and communicate their social and
environmental impacts. This practice aligns with global standards for corporate
reporting while addressing local priorities and development needs.
MTN's
commitment to sustainability extends beyond traditional corporate social
responsibility to integrate environmental, social, and governance
considerations into core business operations.
