The Kenyan
government has reiterated its commitment to youth digital empowerment through a
comprehensive program at Belgut Technical Training Institute focused on
preparing young people for the future of work. Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo
who made this known at the Digital Youth Empowerment Programme, noted the
critical importance of equipping youth with digital skills that enable remote
work opportunities and global competitiveness.

The event brought
together government officials, educational leaders, and technology experts to
address the growing need for digital literacy and technical skills among
Kenya's youth population. During his address, CS Kabogo commended Members of
Parliament for allocating National Government Constituencies Development Fund
resources to establish Digital Hubs across the country. These facilities serve
as crucial access points for young innovators to transform ideas into viable
digital enterprises.
ICT Authority
Acting CEO, Zilpher Owiti detailed the significant progress made in expanding
digital infrastructure throughout Kericho County, including the deployment of
fiber optic cables and establishment of functional digital hubs. She emphasized
the importance of utilizing the free internet connectivity provided through
these initiatives and encouraged local entrepreneurs to leverage the available
resources for business growth and skill development.
The Authority
showcased several flagship programs designed to support youth development in
the digital sector. The Smart Academy, Huduma Whitebox, Presidential DigiTalent
Programme, and E-Waste Management initiative collectively provide comprehensive
support ranging from digital skills training and innovation mentorship to
environmental sustainability in technology adoption.

Board Chair,
Lily Ng'ok highlighted the numerous opportunities available through the
Ministry of Information, Communications and The Digital Economy that could
significantly benefit Kericho County's development. She emphasized how digital
transformation can create new economic pathways for young residents while
addressing local challenges through technological solutions.
The Director of
Programmes and Standards at ICT Authority, Bwaley Thomas also delivered a
powerful message to the youth participants, stating that digital skills hold
inherent value comparable to the opportunities they generate. The event
attracted significant political support with attendance from multiple Members
of Parliament, representatives from the Executive Office of the President, and
ICT Authority Board members.
