The Government
of Kenya has announced the opening of applications for the Africa Centre of
Competence for Digital and Artificial Intelligence Skilling, marking a
significant milestone in continental capacity building for digital governance.
Established through a collaboration between the Ministry of Information,
Communication and Digital Economy, United Nations Development Programme Kenya,
Microsoft, and the Kenya School of Government, the Centre represents a
pioneering initiative to equip civil servants across Africa with cutting-edge
digital skills.
Located at the
Kenya School of Government in Nairobi, the Centre will serve as a regional hub
dedicated to transforming public service delivery through digital innovation
and artificial intelligence. The initiative addresses the growing need for
tech-savvy civil servants capable of leveraging digital tools to improve
governance, enhance service delivery, and drive sustainable development across
the continent.
The
comprehensive training program will focus on multiple critical areas including
digital literacy enhancement, artificial intelligence fluency for public
service applications, data-driven decision-making for governance, cybersecurity
awareness, and innovation ecosystem development. The curriculum has been
designed to empower public servants at all levels with practical skills that
can be immediately applied in their respective government agencies and
ministries.
The program
emphasizes regional collaboration and knowledge sharing, creating a platform
for African public servants to exchange best practices and develop coordinated
approaches to digital transformation. This pan-African perspective ensures that
solutions developed through the Centre will address common challenges faced by
governments across the continent while respecting local contexts and needs.
Interested
public servants from across Africa are invited to apply through the Centre's
official application portal. The initiative welcomes participants from various
government departments and agencies, recognizing that digital transformation
requires coordinated effort across all sectors of public administration.
