Uganda's emerging technology sector is gaining
international exposure as four innovative startups participate in the 9th Tokyo
International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) through the UJ
Connect Project. The delegation, led by the Ministry of ICT & National
Guidance in partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA),
represents Uganda's commitment to positioning itself as a digital innovation
hub in Africa.
The conference serves as a significant platform for
strengthening Africa-Japan relations with particular emphasis on innovation,
investment opportunities, and sustainable development initiatives. Uganda's
participation underscores the nation's strategic focus on digital
transformation and its recognition of the vital role startups play in economic
development and technological advancement.

Through this international engagement, Ugandan
entrepreneurs are accessing valuable opportunities to establish new market
connections, attract potential investment, and learn global best practices in
digital transformation. The participation also enables them to build strategic
partnerships that could help scale their innovations both regionally and
internationally.
The Ministry of ICT & National Guidance has
emphasized the importance of such platforms in showcasing Uganda's growing
capabilities in the digital sector. The UJ Connect Project, developed in
collaboration with JICA, has been instrumental in preparing these startups for
international exposure. The initiative focuses on building the capacity of
Ugandan innovators and connecting them with international networks that can
support their growth and expansion plans.
This participation comes at a time when Uganda is
actively working to enhance its digital ecosystem through various policy
interventions and support mechanisms for technology entrepreneurs. The
government recognizes that digital innovation represents a key driver for
economic growth, job creation, and improved service delivery across multiple
sectors.

The four selected startups span various sectors of
Uganda's digital economy, bringing solutions that address local challenges
while having potential for international adaptation. Their presence at TICAD 9
allows them to demonstrate how Ugandan innovation can contribute to addressing
broader African development challenges through technology-based solutions.
