Cabinet Secretary for
Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, William Kabogo Gitau has
officially opened the Summit on People-Centred Technologies in Africa, which
brought together government leaders, civil society, technology experts,
academia and other stakeholders.
Participants gathered to
deliberate on how technology can serve people, strengthen communities and
promote peace, inclusion and accountability across the continent, Kabogo said.
He emphasized that as Africa
accelerates its digital transformation, every digital system developed or
regulated must earn and maintain public trust while safeguarding citizens'
rights to privacy, freedom of expression and access to information.
As Kenya prepares to host
the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence Governance Forum later this
year, Kabogo encouraged participants to move from dialogue to practical action,
strengthen local technical capacity, support African innovation and ensure that
technology remains lawful, transparent and accountable.
He reaffirmed Kenya's
commitment to working with governments, civil society, industry and development
partners to build a secure, inclusive and people-centred digital future for
Africa.
