The European Space Agency (ESA) and the European University Institute (EUI) have continued discussions on strengthening collaboration between the space and policy communities, with a focus on the growing links between Earth observation, public policy and societal challenges.

Simonetta Cheli, Director of ESA Earth Observation Programmes and Head of ESRIN, welcomed Patrizia Isabelle Nanz, President of the European University Institute, and Ambassador Armando Barucco, EUI Secretary General, to ESRIN.

In a LinkedIn post, Cheli said ESA and EUI had built a strong relationship over the years, creating opportunities for dialogue beyond the traditional boundaries of the space sector.

Their exchanges have explored how space, particularly Earth Observation, increasingly connects with broader policy and societal challenges.

Cheli said the visit provided another opportunity to continue the dialogue and consider how the longstanding collaboration could develop further.

She thanked Nanz and Barucco for visiting ESRIN and continuing the discussion on cooperation between the two institutions.
