Kenya’s Office of the Data
Protection Commissioner (ODPC), the Commission on Administrative Justice
(CAJ), and the Office of the Ombudsman are deepening ways to strengthen
cooperation on access to information, transparency and data privacy.
The engagement was led by
Data Commissioner Immaculate Kassait, who welcomed a CAJ delegation headed by
Vice Chairperson Ms. Dorothy Jemator and the Commission Secretary to discuss
collaborative efforts and the “State of Openness Report and Access to
Information (ATI)”.
The discussions focused on
practical opportunities to improve coordination between the two institutions
and strengthen transparency and accountability in public service delivery.
At the centre of the
engagement was the principle that “the right to know and the right to privacy
must work together”.
The ODPC emphasised that
protecting personal data while enabling access to information is essential to
building public institutions that are transparent, accountable and trusted by
citizens.
The office welcomed the
CAJ’s engagement and reaffirmed its commitment to advancing service delivery
through openness, accountability and public trust.
