ARCEP Gabon and the
Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO) have identified potential
areas of cooperation in artificial intelligence regulation, regulatory capacity
building and the exchange of telecommunications regulatory experience.
The discussions took place
in London during a meeting between Mr Célestin KADJIDJA, President of the
Regulatory Council of ARCEP Gabon, and Ms Bernadette LEWIS, Secretary-General
of the CTO, on the sidelines of the organisation’s 125th anniversary celebrations
held on 28–29 September 2026.
One of the proposed
initiatives is a working group on artificial intelligence and
telecommunications regulation, which would focus on sharing practical cases and
tools to help regulatory institutions respond to emerging digital challenges.
The two organisations also
discussed sharing Gabon’s regulatory experience with the wider Commonwealth
community, creating opportunities for institutions to exchange knowledge and
approaches to telecommunications oversight.
Another proposed area of
cooperation involves capacity building tailored to ARCEP Gabon’s needs,
particularly in market and network supervision, regulatory sandboxes and
consumer protection.
According to ARCEP Gabon,
the potential areas of cooperation are intended to strengthen regulatory
capabilities in response to digital transformation and promote the exchange of
experience between institutions.
