MTN’s Nompilo Morafo has received
the Catalyst Award at the African Leadership Roundtable during the final day of
the company’s engagements at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Morafo received the award on
Thursday evening, with MTN describing the recognition as a proud moment for its
team.
The day also included MTN
participation in Team South Africa’s Critical Minerals Roundtable, where
Nompilo Morafo and Marina Madale joined MTN representatives at the invitation
of Minister Parks Tau.
The MTN team later attended
the global launch of Hire from Nigeria, hosted by Minister Dr Jumoke Oduwole,
as well as UNICEF’s A Generation at Work initiative.
The engagements focused on
supporting young Africans to access employment opportunities in the digital
economy, alongside discussions on critical minerals and other issues shaping
Africa’s economic future.
Reflecting on five days in
New York, MTN said its engagements covered a new partnership to support mothers
in Nigeria as well as discussions on artificial intelligence, critical minerals
and jobs for young Africans.
The company said the
conversations consistently returned to the importance of connectivity in
enabling Africa’s leadership in the digital economy.
“When Africa is connected,
Africa can lead,” MTN said.
The company thanked the
partners who engaged with its team during the week and said the conclusion of
the engagements marked the beginning of further work.
