The Digital Cooperation
Organization (DCO) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for
Western Asia (UNESCWA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at
accelerating digital transformation across the Arab region and strengthening
cooperation beyond the region.
DCO Founding
Secretary-General Deemah AlYahya signed the agreement with Dr. Rania A.
Al-Mashat, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of
UNESCWA.
According to AlYahya, the
MoU marks a new chapter in cooperation between the two organizations and is
expected to deepen collaboration across critical areas including digital
development, artificial intelligence readiness, knowledge exchange and capacity
building.
She said the partnership
also has the potential to extend beyond the Arab region by bringing together
the organisations’ expertise, networks and shared ambitions to strengthen
North-South digital cooperation and help bridge the digital divide.
AlYahya said her experience
at the DCO has given her firsthand exposure to the digital progress achieved by
the organisation’s eight Member States from the Arab region.
She said the new agreement
provides another platform to connect that momentum, scale initiatives that are
working and create greater opportunities across the region and beyond.
The partnership is expected
to translate the shared priorities of DCO and UNESCWA into practical
cooperation, with a focus on strengthening digital capabilities and supporting
countries as they advance their digital transformation.
AlYahya said she looked
forward to turning the agreement into action and translating the organisations’
shared ambition into greater impact towards the DCO’s goal of Digital
Prosperity for All.
