Telekom Networks Malawi Plc
(TNM) has acquired the OCL data centre at Kanengo in Lilongwe as part of its
strategy to strengthen Malawi’s digital infrastructure and expand its capacity
to deliver advanced enterprise and digital services.
The acquisition is expected
to improve TNM’s digital infrastructure capabilities, supporting service
quality, reliable internet solutions and the growth of enterprise offerings,
including Data Centre as a Service.
The data centre will also
provide infrastructure to support future digital services, including TNM’s
Mpamba digital financial services, as well as emerging technologies such as
artificial intelligence and AI as a Service.
TNM said the investment
forms part of its broader growth strategy and its commitment to developing the
digital infrastructure required to support Malawi’s long-term development
ambitions under Malawi 2063.
The national development
agenda seeks to establish Malawi as a digitally enabled middle-income economy
by 2063, with digital infrastructure expected to play an increasingly important
role in economic and social transformation.
The acquisition gives TNM an
expanded infrastructure base from which to support businesses and consumers as
demand for cloud, data hosting, digital financial services and emerging
technologies grows.
TNM said it expects the
investment to create greater value for customers while contributing to the
development of Malawi’s digital economy.
The company will also seek
to build on the new infrastructure to expand its portfolio of digital services
and strengthen its role in supporting the country’s transition towards a more
digitally enabled economy.
