The 5th National
Communications Conference has concluded with renewed calls for collaboration
among government, regulators and telecommunications operators to support the
sustainable development of Mozambique’s communications sector.
Held over two days, the
conference brought together key stakeholders to discuss priorities, challenges
and opportunities shaping the future of communications in the country.
Discussions focused on expanding access to telecommunications services,
improving service quality and creating an environment that encourages continued
investment in digital infrastructure.
Among the major issues
addressed were telecommunications tariffs, market competition and the long-term
sustainability of investments. Participants emphasized the need for a
coordinated approach that balances consumer needs with the financial
requirements necessary to support network expansion and technological
advancement.
Vodacom Mozambique Chief
Executive Officer Simon Karikari participated in the discussions, underscoring
the importance of fostering an environment that supports both digital inclusion
and investment-driven growth. According to the company, achieving meaningful
progress in the sector will require policies and partnerships that encourage
innovation while extending connectivity to underserved communities.
A key outcome of the
conference was the announcement of spectrum allocations for 5G services, a move
expected to accelerate the country’s digital transformation agenda and support
the rollout of next-generation connectivity solutions.
Vodacom Mozambique said the
spectrum assignment aligns with its ongoing efforts to expand digital services
and strengthen connectivity across the country. The operator noted that it
views the development as an opportunity to further contribute to the creation
of a more inclusive and resilient digital ecosystem.
The conference highlighted
the role of strategic dialogue between policymakers, regulators and industry
players in addressing sector challenges and building a framework for
sustainable growth.
