The
Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) has hosted 29 student
officers from the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) Signal Officers Course as part
of efforts to strengthen understanding of the country’s communications
infrastructure and regulatory framework.
The
visit provided the officers with an opportunity to gain insight into CRAN’s
role in the provision, regulation, and maintenance of communication systems
that support critical national operations, including those of the defence
sector.
During
the engagement, the officers were introduced to various communications
technologies and systems, including Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT)
networks and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) solutions, which play an
important role in modern military and civilian communications.
CRAN
officials highlighted the authority’s mandate in ensuring reliable, efficient,
and secure communications services across Namibia while supporting the
development of telecommunications infrastructure that serves both public and
institutional users.
The
visit formed part of the practical training component of the NDF Signal
Officers Course, aimed at exposing officers to real-world communications
systems and the regulatory environment governing their operation.
CRAN
said it was honoured to contribute to the professional development of the
officers and emphasized the importance of collaboration between regulatory
institutions and security agencies in advancing communications capabilities and
national development.
The
engagement underscores ongoing efforts to bridge the gap between regulatory
policy and operational application while equipping future military
communications professionals with a broader understanding of the technologies
and systems that underpin modern connectivity.
