Zimbabwe, China strengthen cooperation on digital transformation and ICT development

Zimbabwe and China have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation in digital transformation following a bilateral meeting between Zimbabwe’s Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, Tatenda Mavetera, and the Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Zhou Ding.

The discussions focused on expanding collaboration in key areas of the digital economy, including digital infrastructure development, connectivity, innovation, and ICT skills training.

According to Minister Mavetera, the engagement aligns with Zimbabwe’s national development agenda and reflects the government’s commitment to accelerating the country’s digital transformation through strategic international partnerships.

The minister noted that cooperation with China is expected to support efforts to enhance digital inclusion, improve access to technology, and strengthen the country’s digital capabilities. She emphasized the importance of leveraging China’s technological expertise to advance Zimbabwe’s modernization agenda and ensure broader participation in the global digital economy.

The meeting also highlighted the longstanding relationship between Zimbabwe and China, with both countries expressing interest in expanding collaboration in technology and innovation-driven development.

Zimbabwe’s Ministry of ICT, Postal and Courier Services indicated that continued engagement with international partners will be critical to building digital infrastructure, equipping young people with future-ready skills, and fostering innovation across the economy.

The bilateral discussions form part of broader efforts by the Zimbabwean government to accelerate technological advancement, expand digital access, and create opportunities for citizens through increased investment in information and communication technologies.
