The ICT sector leadership in Uganda, together with government agencies under the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, has convened for the official ministerial handover ceremony aimed at ensuring continuity in the country’s digital transformation agenda.

The event, held at the Ministry headquarters, brought together outgoing and incoming ministers, senior government officials, and heads of sector agencies to review achievements and outline priorities for the sector moving forward.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, Dr. Aminah Zawedde, opened the ceremony by expressing appreciation to the outgoing ministers, Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi and Hon. Godfrey Kabbyanga, for their service to the sector. She also welcomed the incoming ministers, Rt. Hon. Justine Kasule Lumumba and Hon. Alioni Yorke Odria, as well as the continuing Minister, Hon. Joyce Nabosa Ssebugwawo.

Dr. Zawedde highlighted key achievements recorded under the previous leadership, provided an overview of the ICT sector, and outlined strategic opportunities and priorities aimed at accelerating Uganda’s digital transformation.

Speaking on behalf of sector agencies, Hon. Nyombi Thembo congratulated the newly appointed ministers and commended the outgoing leadership for their contribution to the growth of the sector.

He also expressed appreciation to the Permanent Secretary for her leadership during the transition period and reaffirmed the commitment of the Uganda Communications Commission to expanding broadband penetration and strengthening communications infrastructure across the country.

The ceremony underscored government’s continued focus on leveraging ICT to drive economic growth, improve public service delivery, and advance Uganda’s digital economy agenda.
