The Kingdom of Morocco is hosting the African Open Government Conference in Rabat from May 5 to 7, 2026, under the theme “Towards an open Africa,” bringing together public officials, parliamentarians, national institutions, and international partners engaged in advancing open governance across the continent.

The conference is being organized under the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform and serves as a platform for dialogue on transparency, accountability, and citizen-centred public administration.

In her opening address, Minister Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni emphasized that open government has become a strategic lever for modernising public action, strengthening transparency, and bringing public services closer to citizens. She noted that Morocco’s approach aligns with the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, grounded in participation, responsibility, and trust, while highlighting the growing role of digital transformation in improving service delivery and enhancing citizen engagement.

On the sidelines of the conference, three cooperation agreements were signed aimed at reinforcing governance and institutional openness. The first agreement, concluded with ICESCO, focuses on collaboration in digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and strategic foresight.

The second agreement with the Institution du Médiateur du Royaume seeks to improve public service quality and strengthen relations between citizens and administrative bodies. The third agreement, signed with the National Authority for Probity, Prevention and the Fight Against Corruption, aims to enhance transparency through advanced information systems and the use of artificial intelligence tools for corruption risk prevention.

The conference continues with discussions among participating countries and partners on strengthening open government practices and accelerating reforms across Africa.
