President John Dramani
Mahama has met with officials of Boeing as Ghana advances plans to re-establish
a national airline, with preliminary studies affirming the viability of the
proposed project.
The meeting focused on the
progress of the initiative, with Boeing supporting Ghana through the process of
establishing a new national carrier.
According to Joyce Bawah
Mogtari, Presidential Adviser and Special Aide to the President, a road map for
setting up the new airline has been agreed.
The road map will involve
the search for a strategic airline partner and a technical partner, alongside
the acquisition of an Air Operators Certificate (AOC), fleet selection and
financing decisions.
The Boeing team assured
President Mahama of its continued support throughout the process of
establishing and operating the airline.
The proposed national
carrier is expected to increase utilisation of Ghana's improved airport
facilities and support President Mahama's vision of making Accra the premier
aviation hub in West Africa.
The initiative is also
expected to create thousands of jobs across the aviation industry, including
opportunities for pilots, cabin crew, aeronautical engineers and aviation
management specialists.
The re-establishment of a
national airline forms part of efforts to strengthen Ghana's aviation sector,
expand its capacity and enhance the country's position as a regional aviation
and connectivity hub.
