African innovators from
Zambia, Botswana, Malawi, Liberia, Nigeria and Zimbabwe are preparing to
develop mineral exploration technologies following the conclusion of a
three-day Pan-African MineTech Hub Exploration Technology Pre-Incubation
Workshop in Lusaka.
The workshop brought teams
together to align on how UniPods will deliver the upcoming pre-incubation
programme, which aims to help innovators turn ideas into validated early-stage
prototypes for further development and engagement with the mining industry.
The closing session was
attended by Acting Permanent Secretary Derrick Saboi, who reaffirmed the
government’s ambition to increase copper production to 3 million tonnes per
annum and highlighted the role of exploration technologies in identifying
mineral deposits.
With the workshop concluded,
the focus now shifts to implementation and developing homegrown solutions for
Africa’s mining sector.
