The Communications
Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) is participating in the 53rd Meeting of
the International Telecommunication Union Radiocommunication Sector (ITU-R)
Working Party 5D (WP 5D), taking place in Geneva, Switzerland, from 28
September to 8 October 2026.
The meeting is addressing
key matters relating to International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT),
including spectrum, technology evolution and preparations for the World
Radiocommunication Conference 2027 (WRC-27).
Working Party 5D is
responsible for matters relating to International Mobile Telecommunications
(IMT) and is undertaking technical and spectrum studies supporting preparations
for WRC-27.
CRAN’s participation
supports Namibia’s continued engagement in the international development of
spectrum and IMT frameworks and forms part of the country’s broader WRC-27
preparatory process.
The engagement is also
intended to help ensure that Namibia’s national priorities remain informed by
global technical developments while contributing to the advancement of African
spectrum interests.
Representing CRAN at the
meeting are Mr. Pascal Haingura, Executive: Engineering & Technical
Services; Ms. Ronel Le Grange, Technical Advisor to the CEO; and Ms. Sheleen
Kavikairiua, Manager: Licensing, Standards and Regulatory Compliance.
The 53rd meeting of WP 5D is
part of the ongoing ITU-R work on IMT systems and includes dedicated
discussions on spectrum aspects and WRC preparations.
