The Civil Aviation Authority
(CAA) has held discussions with a delegation of Chinese investors on potential
investment and collaboration opportunities in Zambia’s aviation sector,
including infrastructure development, emerging technologies and skills development.
CAA Acting Director General
Bwalya Mulenga received the delegation, led by Jian Zhu (Guet), during a
courtesy meeting focused on identifying areas for potential cooperation and
investment in the country’s aviation industry.
During the engagement, the
Chinese delegation presented preliminary plans to support the proposed
redevelopment of Kabwe, including the potential development of an airport to
stimulate regional economic growth and help ease congestion affecting major cities.
The delegation also
expressed interest in a range of aviation-related opportunities, including
aircraft manufacturing, assembly facilities, aviation training, drone
operations and advanced air mobility initiatives.
The proposed investments
could expand Zambia’s aviation infrastructure and create opportunities for the
development of technical skills and capabilities within the sector.
The CAA advised the
investors to submit concept notes outlining the proposed projects to enable the
Authority to assess the initiatives and provide the necessary regulatory
guidance.
The Authority reaffirmed its
commitment to facilitating investment in Zambia’s aviation sector while
ensuring that proposed developments comply with national civil aviation laws
and applicable international aviation standards.
