Skyward Express has launched
a scheduled flight service between Nairobi’s Wilson Airport and Garissa,
opening a new air connectivity link expected to improve access to the county
and support economic activity across the wider region.
The inaugural flight was
launched following recent improvement works at Garissa Airstrip, which have
enhanced the facility’s infrastructure and operational readiness to support
expanded air services.
The launch ceremony was
attended by Garissa County Governor Nathif Jama Adam, Kenya Airports Authority
Managing Director and CEO Moses Wekesa, and Acting Director of Air Transport at
the Ministry of Roads and Transport Samson Karau, representing Principal
Secretary for the State Department for Aviation and Aerospace Development
Teresia Mbaika.
The new scheduled service is
expected to improve the movement of people and goods between Nairobi and
Garissa, while creating greater opportunities for tourism, trade and
investment.
Improved air access is also
expected to contribute to wider socio-economic activity in Garissa by reducing
travel barriers and providing businesses, residents and visitors with an
additional transport option.
