The Civil Aviation Authority
(CAA) has rolled out the Digital Safety Occurrence Reporting System (DSORS) to
Zambia’s aviation industry as part of efforts to strengthen safety reporting,
risk analysis and regulatory oversight.
The digital platform
provides airlines, aircraft operators, service providers and other aviation
stakeholders with a faster, simpler and more secure mechanism for reporting
safety occurrences across the aviation sector.
Occurrences that can be
reported through DSORS include runway incursions, bird strikes, foreign object
debris (FOD), fuel spills, equipment failures and wildlife hazards.
The CAA said the system will
improve the collection and management of safety information, enabling the
authority to identify emerging risks at an earlier stage, analyse safety trends
and support timely corrective action before occurrences escalate into serious
incidents or accidents.
Speaking during the rollout,
CAA Director General Captain Derrick F. Luembe said the system represents an
important step in strengthening Zambia’s aviation safety oversight.
He said effective safety
management depends on ensuring that relevant safety information is captured,
analysed and acted upon in a timely and effective manner.
The introduction of DSORS
aligns with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Annex 19 on Safety
Management and supports Zambia’s State Safety Programme.
The system is expected to
strengthen data-driven safety oversight while encouraging greater reporting,
information sharing, organisational learning and continuous improvement across
the aviation industry.
