MTN MoMo Uganda has
officially welcomed Phrase Lubega as its new Managing Director, with
stakeholders gathering at an event in Kampala to mark the leadership transition
and reaffirm the company’s commitment to advancing digital financial services
in Uganda.
The event brought together
regulators, financial institution leaders, partners, aggregators, customers,
and members of the MTN family to recognise the transition and reflect on the
growth of MTN MoMo as a key player in Uganda’s financial technology ecosystem.
Speaking at the occasion,
Mulinge Sylvia M.B.S, Board Chairperson and CEO of MTN Uganda, said the
leadership transition represents both an opportunity to recognise the journey
of the business and strengthen commitment to its future direction.
She highlighted the role of
MTN MoMo in empowering individuals, supporting businesses, promoting financial
inclusion, and contributing to Uganda’s digital economy.
MTN Uganda Board Chairman
Charles Mbire, speaking on behalf of the board and shareholders, reflected on
the company’s evolution from a telecommunications provider connecting people to
a digital services organisation creating new economic opportunities through
financial technology.
He described MTN MoMo as one
of Uganda’s most impactful fintech platforms and expressed confidence in
Lubega’s ability to lead the business into its next phase of growth.
Lubega thanked stakeholders
for their support and acknowledged the contributions of regulators, partners,
customers, employees, and the wider ecosystem in building MTN MoMo’s success.
He said his leadership
approach would focus on collaboration and strengthening partnerships to expand
access to secure, affordable, and convenient digital financial services across
Uganda.
