The Autorité de Protection
des Données Personnelles (APDP Benin) has intensified efforts to promote
awareness on personal data protection through a public engagement programme
held in Djougou, targeting citizens, public institutions and economic actors.
The two-day Open Days
programme, held at the Place de l’Indépendance in Djougou, brought together
stakeholders from the Donga and Atacora departments to discuss the growing
importance of protecting personal information in an increasingly digital
society.
The opening ceremony was
chaired by the Secretary General of the Donga Prefecture, representing the
Prefect, and attended by mayors of the communes of Djougou, Copargo and
Bassila, alongside administrative, local and traditional authorities.
During the engagement, APDP
Benin representatives highlighted the mandate of the institution and addressed
key challenges associated with personal data protection amid the rapid
expansion of digital services and the digital transformation of public administration.
The representative of the
Prefect commended the initiative, noting that strengthening public awareness on
data protection is essential to encouraging responsible practices among
citizens, government institutions and businesses involved in the collection,
processing and management of personal information.
Throughout the two-day
programme, APDP Benin officials conducted information sessions, discussions and
awareness activities focused on good data governance practices and the
responsibilities of stakeholders in safeguarding personal information.
