The
Regional African Satellite Communications Organization (RASCOM) has extended
its warmest congratulations to Eng. Kezias Kazuba Mwale following his election
as the Secretary General of the African Telecommunications Union (ATU) for the
2027–2031 institutional cycle.
In
a congratulatory message, RASCOM Director General Timothy Nii Adi Ashong
commended Eng. Mwale’s election, describing it as a reflection of the
confidence placed in his extensive experience, leadership capacity, and
commitment to advancing Africa’s telecommunications and digital development
agenda.
“On
behalf of RASCOM, I extend our heartfelt congratulations to Eng. Kezias Kazuba
Mwale on his election as Secretary General of the African Telecommunications
Union. His wealth of experience in spectrum management, telecommunications
policy, and continental digital cooperation will be invaluable as Africa
continues its journey towards universal connectivity and digital
transformation,” Mr.
Ashong said.
RASCOM
highlighted the critical role of the ATU in promoting collaboration among
African countries, harmonising telecommunications policies, and strengthening
the continent’s voice in global ICT discussions.
Mr.
Ashong reaffirmed RASCOM’s commitment to working closely with the incoming ATU
Secretary General and the Union’s Member States to advance shared priorities,
particularly in expanding connectivity, promoting satellite communications, and
leveraging space-based technologies to bridge Africa’s digital divide.
“RASCOM
remains fully prepared to collaborate with Eng. Mwale and the ATU Secretariat
as we work together to unlock the potential of telecommunications and satellite
technology in supporting Africa’s socio-economic development,” he added.
RASCOM
also expressed appreciation to all candidates who participated in the ATU
electoral process and acknowledged the leadership and contributions of outgoing
Secretary General John Omo in advancing the Union’s mandate.
