The South African National
Space Agency (SANSA) and the Technology Innovation Agency (TIA) have agreed to
strengthen collaboration aimed at accelerating the development and
commercialisation of space technologies to support South Africa's
socio-economic development.
The commitment followed a
strategic meeting between SANSA Chief Executive Officer Humbulani Mudau and TIA
Chief Executive Officer Dr. Titus Mathe, alongside their executive leadership
teams, to explore opportunities for closer cooperation within the country's
science, technology and innovation ecosystem.
The discussions focused on
leveraging the complementary strengths of both organisations to advance the
priorities of South Africa's National System of Innovation (NSI), stimulate
industrial growth and support the commercialisation of space-based technologies.
The two agencies also
identified opportunities to strengthen research and innovation, promote
technology-driven economic development and encourage greater participation in
the country's growing space sector.
According to SANSA, the
collaboration is intended to help build a globally competitive space and
innovation ecosystem capable of delivering practical socio-economic benefits
while enhancing South Africa's position in space science and technology.
The partnership also aims to
inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers and innovators by creating
an environment that supports research, entrepreneurship and technological
advancement.
