The National Communication
Authority (NCA) of South Sudan has concluded a two-day inception workshop aimed
at developing the country’s National Spectrum Management and 5G Strategy as
part of efforts to accelerate digital transformation and strengthen next-generation
connectivity.
The workshop brought
together key stakeholders from the Ministry of ICT & Postal Services, the
Eastern Africa Regional Digital Integration Project (EA-RDIP), and
international telecommunications consultant Prof. William Webb and his team.
Discussions focused on
establishing a practical roadmap for the adoption of 5G technology, including
project methodology, implementation timelines, stakeholder engagement,
governance structures and the technical information required to support the
development of a sustainable national strategy.
Experts shared global best
practices in 5G deployment while highlighting the importance of building a
secure and investment-friendly digital ecosystem. Beyond network
infrastructure, participants addressed critical areas such as cybersecurity
strengthening, improved quality of service for consumers, and creating an
enabling environment for investment in the country’s technology sector.
The National Spectrum
Management and 5G Strategy is expected to provide the foundation for South
Sudan’s transition towards advanced mobile technologies, supporting faster
internet access, improved connectivity and new opportunities for economic
growth across multiple sectors.
The NCA said continued
collaboration among government institutions, development partners and industry
stakeholders will be essential in unlocking the full potential of 5G technology
for citizens and businesses across South Sudan.
