The
Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has concluded a two-day stakeholder
policy review workshop aimed at updating Nigeria’s National Telecommunications
Policy (NTP) of 2000, in a move to strengthen the country’s evolving digital
and regulatory framework.
The
workshop brought together industry stakeholders who participated in structured
working groups focused on key thematic areas shaping the future of Nigeria’s
telecommunications sector.

The
discussions covered licensing and market access, technical regulation and
spectrum management, consumer affairs and online safety, national and
international collaboration, emerging technologies, economic regulation,
universal access and service, internet and satellite communications,
cybersecurity and trust, as well as capacity development and research.
The
Nigerian Communications Commission emphasized that the review process reflects
its commitment to a participatory and inclusive regulatory approach that
engages stakeholders across the digital ecosystem.

The
Commission further invited public contributions to the ongoing policy update
process, encouraging stakeholders to submit proposals and memoranda to inform
the development of a revised National Telecommunications Policy.
Officials
noted that the review is expected to modernize Nigeria’s telecommunications
framework in line with global developments in emerging technologies,
cybersecurity, and digital inclusion.
