Cassava Technologies is
strengthening its African digital infrastructure footprint with plans to
develop Egypt’s largest data centre and the country’s first sovereign AI
Factory in partnership with Elsewedy Electric and Vodafone Business Egypt.
The two initiatives are
designed to provide the infrastructure and computing capacity needed to support
artificial intelligence, cloud services, data-intensive businesses and digital
innovation in Egypt and the wider African and Middle Eastern markets.
Cassava Technologies said
the sovereign AI Factory will have an initial capacity of 20 megawatts, with a
pathway to scale to approximately 200MW, making it the company’s second AI
Factory on the African continent.
Cassava Technologies
President and Group CEO Hardy Pemhiwa said Africa currently accounts for less
than 1 percent of global data centre capacity, but argued that the gap
represents an opportunity to expand the continent’s digital infrastructure
rather than a limitation.
The planned AI Factory is
intended to provide locally hosted AI infrastructure that gives organisations
greater control over their data while supporting regulatory requirements,
strengthening cybersecurity and creating capacity to develop and deploy AI applications
at scale.
The two projects are
designed to complement each other, with the data centre providing the
underlying infrastructure while the AI Factory uses that capacity to support
innovation, investment and regional digital growth.
The partnership brings
together the respective capabilities of the three companies, with Cassava
Technologies contributing its experience in data centres and AI infrastructure,
Vodafone Business providing technology and enterprise expertise, and Elsewedy
Electric bringing industrial and infrastructure capabilities.
Cassava Technologies said
Egypt is a strategic component of its broader vision to become a leading
digital solutions provider in its chosen African markets, with the country
positioned to serve as a regional hub for data, cloud and AI services.
