The 2026 Girls in ICT programme has been held at the National University of Science and Technology in Zimbabwe, bringing together government leaders, students and innovators under the theme “AI Development – Girls Shaping the Digital Future.”

The event was supported by NetOne Cellular Private Limited and focused on encouraging young women to pursue studies and careers in information and communication technology.

The programme was attended by the Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services, Tatenda Mavetera alongside Deputy Minister Phuti, Permanent Secretary Dr. B. Chirume, Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Minister of State Mr. Nyoni, and a representative from the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe.

Officials used the platform to emphasize the importance of increasing female participation in ICT-related fields and strengthening national efforts to build a more inclusive digital economy.

Speakers encouraged collaboration between government, industry and academia to inspire more girls to take up opportunities in technology and innovation.

As part of the event, participants toured exhibition stands where students showcased technology-driven projects and innovative solutions, highlighting the growing interest and capability of young women in ICT development.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts in Zimbabwe to expand digital skills development and promote gender inclusion in science, technology and innovation sectors.
