The 2026 Girls in ICT
programme has been held at the National University of Science and Technology in
Zimbabwe, bringing together government leaders, students and innovators under
the theme “AI Development – Girls Shaping the Digital Future.”
The event was supported by
NetOne Cellular Private Limited and focused on encouraging young women to
pursue studies and careers in information and communication technology.

The programme was attended
by the Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services, Tatenda Mavetera alongside
Deputy Minister Phuti, Permanent Secretary Dr. B. Chirume, Permanent Secretary
in the Office of the Minister of State Mr. Nyoni, and a representative from the
Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe.
Officials used the platform
to emphasize the importance of increasing female participation in ICT-related
fields and strengthening national efforts to build a more inclusive digital
economy.

Speakers encouraged
collaboration between government, industry and academia to inspire more girls
to take up opportunities in technology and innovation.
As part of the event,
participants toured exhibition stands where students showcased
technology-driven projects and innovative solutions, highlighting the growing
interest and capability of young women in ICT development.
The initiative forms part of
broader efforts in Zimbabwe to expand digital skills development and promote
gender inclusion in science, technology and innovation sectors.
