Cabo Verde has highlighted the strength of its emerging innovation ecosystem following the successful hosting of the Re!nventa Hackathon, which brought together young innovators from the country and its diaspora to develop digital solutions for public sector challenges.

The two-day event saw teams collaborate intensively to design practical and scalable solutions within a limited timeframe, addressing key issues facing government services and digital transformation efforts.

Organisers said the hackathon demonstrated a high level of technical capability, creativity, and collaboration among participants, reflecting the growing maturity of Cabo Verde’s digital innovation landscape.

Among the projects presented, four teams — SunnyTech, CasaTech, NHABEX, and Praia MIA — were recognised for the quality and impact of their solutions, with SunnyTech and CasaTech emerging as overall winners.

The initiative was supported by a range of national and international partners, including the World Bank Group, the Ministry of Digital Economy, the Directorate-General for Telecommunications and Digital Economy, Cabo Verde Digital, and the University of Cabo Verde, alongside development agencies, regulatory bodies, and private sector collaborators.

Stakeholders noted that the event underscores Cabo Verde’s commitment to fostering innovation, supporting young talent, and leveraging digital technology to improve public sector delivery.

The Re!nventa Hackathon forms part of broader efforts to position the country as a competitive player in the digital economy while strengthening collaboration between government, industry, and the technology community.
